Peru's Central Reserve Bank bumps reference interest rate up to 4¼%

By Jennifer Chiou

New York, May 13 - The board of Peru's Central Reserve Bank announced a quarter-point increase to the monetary policy reference rate, which is now 4¼%.

This follows last month's similar hike to 4%, and 25-basis point increases in both February and March.

The board stated in its May report that the action was once again aimed at offsetting the impact of rising international food and energy prices.

The report notes that inflation in April stood at 0.68% while the annual inflation tally comes in at 3.34%. Further, core inflation, registered at 0.4%, accumulated an annual growth of 2.6%.
