Pall's eBDS System receives CE Mark

By Lisa Kerner

Charlotte, N.C., Sept. 5 - Pall Corp. announced that its eBDS System to detect contamination of red blood cells has received the CE Mark.

Blood centers use the culture-based test to detect bacterial contamination of platelets, a leading infectious cause of sickness and death from a transfusion, the East Hills, N.Y. medical-device company said.

Results from a new study presented at the International Society of Blood Transfusion 2006 Congress demonstrated the efficacy of the system in detecting bacteria in 662 red blood cell samples.
