Arrhythmia Research Technology to participate in NIH Investigation

Tampa, Fla., May 31 - Arrhythmia Research Technology, Inc. said it has entered into a research agreement with the University of Rochester in Rochester, N.Y., to participate in a National Institutes for Health (NIH) funded investigation into "Risk Stratification in Maditt 2 Type Patients."

The primary objectives of this study are to evaluate the predictive value of a multivariate model consisting of pre-specified clinical and electrocardiograph parameters for predicting arrhythmic events in Multicenter Automatic Defibrillator Implantation Trial 2 (Maditt 2) type post-infarction patients, according to a news release.

The study will develop a multivariate risk-stratification model, based on a broader spectrum of pre-specified clinical covariates and electrocardiograph parameters, and from it a risk-scoring algorithm identifying high-risk and low-risk patient groups, the release said.

Based on previous experience from Maditt 2, this study will investigate a combination of clinical variables and noninvasive electrocardiograph parameters, which will indicate the contribution of different electrophysiological mechanisms that predispose a patient to the risk of ventricular arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death.

The company's patented signal averaging electrocardiogram analysis software will be used to assess the presence of cardiac late potentials in patients enrolled in the study in conjunction with other non-invasive cardiac tests, the release said.

Based in Fitchburg, Mass., Arrhythmia Research Technology capitalizes on the marketing of certain patents or licenses concerning the application of signal-averaged electrocardiography for the detection of cardiac late potentials.
