Armstrong World Industries shows $7.61 million operating profit for August

New York, Sept. 29 - Armstrong World Industries Inc. reported a $7.61 million operating profit for August on sales of $143.44 million, according to its monthly operating report filed Thursday with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware.

The profit more than reversed a loss of $4.01 million in July and sales improved from $120.06 million. June saw an operating loss of $1.31 million and sales of $137.19 million.

August's net income was $8.31 million, compared to a net loss of $4.35 million in July.

Cash and cash equivalents at Aug. 31 were $305.39 million, up from $271.92 million at the end of July.

Armstrong, a Lancaster, Pa.-based flooring company, filed for bankruptcy on Dec. 6, 2000. Its Chapter 11 case number is 00-04471.
