Moody's: Oracle unchanged

Moody's Investors Service said it announced that Oracle Corp.'s agreement to acquire Sun Microsystems would not affect Oracle's A2 senior unsecured rating, its Prime-1 short-term rating or its stable outlook.

According to the agency, Oracle announced that an agreement had been reached to acquire Sun for about $7.4 billion in cash.

Oracle's ratings acknowledge the company's acquisition appetite as well as its successful track record in making and integrating sizable acquisitions, the agency said.

Although the Sun acquisition is not as large as the PeopleSoft ($11 billion) or BEA ($8.5 billion) acquisitions, it is Oracle's first major acquisition of a hardware provider, which will present new challenges to Oracle's management team, the agency noted.
