Former Chrysler's lemon law claimants seek official representation

By Jennifer Lanning Drey

Portland, Ore., April 6 - An informal consumer committee in Old Carco LLC's bankruptcy case asked the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York to appoint an official committee of lemon law claimants whose cases were settled pre-bankruptcy, according to a Tuesday court filing.

The informal committee said it was formed to advance the interests of consumers who settled their related cases prior to Chrysler's bankruptcy filing but were never paid under their respective settlement agreements.

According to the motion, the members of the ad hoc committee are owners of Chrysler vehicles with pending lemon law, breach of warranty or other consumer claims.

A hearing has been scheduled for May 13.

Old Carco was formerly Chrysler LLC, an Auburn Hills, Mich.-based automotive company that filed for bankruptcy on April 30, 2009. Its Chapter 11 case number is 09-50002.
