Oglebay Norton seeks extensions to exclusivity periods

By Jeff Pines

Washington, June 10 - Oglebay Norton Co. wants to extend its exclusive period to Aug. 21 to file a reorganization plan and its exclusive period to solicit votes until Oct. 20.

In a filing Wednesday with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware, the company said the extension will not harm its creditors since the proposed date for its disclosure statement hearing is July 27 and the proposed confirmation date is Sept. 2.

The Cleveland-based mining and minerals processing company said it needs the extensions to make sure it has enough time to obtain approval of its disclosure statement, solicit votes for the plan and resolve any remaining issues with its creditors and shareholders.

The company noted its size and the complexity of its case warrants the extensions. Oglebay Norton employs 1,800 people in 13 states.

A hearing is scheduled for July 27.

Oglebay Norton filed for bankruptcy on Feb. 23. Its Chapter 11 case number is 04-10558.
