S&P rates Nicaragua B+

Standard & Poor's said it assigned a B+ long-term local- and foreign-currency sovereign credit ratings to the Republic of Nicaragua.

The agency also said it assigned B short-term local- and foreign-currency sovereign credit ratings to the country, along with a transfer and convertibility (T&C) assessment of BB-.

The outlook is stable.

Nicaragua's low per capita income, monetary policy rigidities and vulnerability to external shocks constrain the ratings, the agency said.

The ratings are supported by the country’s low general government debt and low debt-service burdens, S&P said, along with the country's political stability.
