S&P: News Corp. unaffected

Standard & Poor's said that the unexpected resignation of Lachlan Murdoch from the deputy chief operating officer position at News Corp. (BBB-/positive/--) has no current effect on S&P's rating on the company.

Lachlan Murdoch had been widely expected to ultimately succeed Rupert Murdoch as chief executive officer of the company.

Although it may take a while for the company to announce a new succession plan, S&P said it views a succession plan as an important consideration for this globally spread, complex company.
