Natus to reduce workforce by 23 employees following Bio-logic acquisition

By Ted A. Knutson

Washington, Jan. 12 - Natus Medical Inc. said it started a plan on Monday to reduce its workforce by 23 employees following the acquisition of Bio-logic Systems Corp.

The cutback amounts to about 10% of the workforce of the company.

The objectives of the plan are to eliminate redundant costs resulting from the merging of the company and Bio-logic and improve efficiencies in operations.

The company expects that total employee severance costs related to the staff reductions will be about $3 million.

Natus said it expects annually the move will save $3.2 million. The company also believes that it will benefit from other synergies of the acquisition that should result in an additional annual reduction of non-personnel-related operating expenses of about $1million.

Natus, a developer and marketer of products for the detection, treatment and tracking of common disorders in newborns and children, has headquarters in San Carlos, Calif.

The announcement was made in an 8-K filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
