Previously active shareholder ups stake in Arbinet-thexchange

By Lisa Kerner

Charlotte, N.C., April 2 - Arbinet-thexchange, Inc. investor Karen Singer reported the purchase of 298,900 shares of the company's stock between March 17 and March 27 priced from $3.60 to $3.84, according to a schedule 13D filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Singer beneficially owns 3,445,474 shares, or 13.6%, of the New Brunswick, N.J., electronic market operator company.

In the past, Singer criticized Arbinet-thexchange's strategic review process, saying it failed to benefit shareholders, but said she was encouraged by the company's new direction, it was previously reported.

Following the review process, the company announced a $15 million stock repurchase plan in June 2007.

Singer also sought the election of her nominees to the Arbinet-thexchange's board of directors, a prior SEC filing stated.
