MSRB to discuss best execution concepts at Wednesday meeting

Tacoma, Wash., Oct. 18 - The Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board released a list of rulemaking topics that its board of directors will discuss when it meets on Wednesday.

The board will discuss:

• Public comments received on its concept proposal relating to the potential application of "best execution" concepts to transactions in municipal securities;

• The Securities and Exchange Commission's recently adopted final rule governing the permanent registration of municipal advisers;

• A proposed new rule to set basic standards for the conduct of municipal advisory activities by municipal advisers. This proposal will not include duties of solicitors;

• Public comments received on its proposed new registration rule;

• Public comments received on its proposed consolidation of current MSRB Rules G-18, G-30 and interpretive guidance to create one rule on fair pricing; and

• Professional qualifications exams and continuing education requirements for municipal securities dealers.
