Mother's Cake & Cookie trademarks, recipes being acquired by Kellogg

By Caroline Salls

Pittsburgh, Dec. 3 - Mother's Cake & Cookie Co.'s trademarks and recipes are being acquired by Kellogg Co., according to a Kellogg news release.

Kellogg said it is not buying any of Mother's other assets.

The sale is expected to close on Dec. 4.

"Mother's Cookies' brands are a complementary fit to our existing cookie portfolio," Kellogg president and chief executive officer David Mackay said in the release.

Kellogg said it plans to reintroduce many of Mother's Cookies' most popular cookies. Mother's Cookies' brands include iced animal crackers, sandwich cookies and wire cut cookies, according to the release.

The Mother's Cookie brands will be managed as part of Kellogg's Snacks business unit.

Mother's Cake and Cookie and Archway Cookies LLC, a Battle Creek, Mich., cookie company, filed for bankruptcy on Oct. 6 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware. Its Chapter 11 case number is 08-12323.
