Mirant to appoint Edgell executive vice president and U.S. region head

Pittsburgh, Dec. 16 - Mirant Corp.'s said Robert M. Edgell will be appointed executive vice president and U.S. region head following election by the company's board of directors on Jan. 3.

According to a company news release, Edgell will be responsible for all aspects of the company's domestic business. He will report to chairman and chief executive officer Edward R. Muller.

Edgell succeeds Curt Morgan, who is leaving the company to pursue other opportunities.

"Bob Edgell has an extraordinary record of creating value in the electric power industry," Muller said in the release. "With our diverse fleet of power plants in California, the mid-Atlantic, the Northeast and elsewhere, we have many opportunities to create enormous value. I am confident that Bob can help us do so with the strong team at Mirant."

Edgell began his career as an engineer with Southern California Edison in 1969 and was with Edison Mission Energy from 1985 to March 2005.

During his tenure at Edison Mission, Edgell served as CEO of the Asia region, chief operating officer, executive vice president responsible for global business development and deputy chairman of Contact Energy Ltd..

Most recently, as executive vice president and general manager, Asia- Pacific region, he led the region to record annual pre-tax profit of more than $200 million.

Earlier this year, he played a major role in the sale of Edison Mission Energy's non-U.S. business.

Edgell has a BS in electrical engineering from California University at Long Beach and a Masters in power engineering from the University of Southern California.

Mirant, an Atlanta-based power company, filed for bankruptcy July 14, 2003 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Texas. Its Chapter 11 case number is 03-46590.
