S&P: Americas Mining, others unaffected

Standard & Poor's said Americas Mining Corp. (B-/positive/--), a Grupo Mexico SA de CV subsidiary, announced that Southern Peru Copper Corp.'s board of directors approved unanimously the merger between Southern Peru Copper and Minera Mexico SA de CV.

The announcement does not have any impact on the ratings or outlooks on any of the companies involved, because S&P said it views the ratings on Americas Mining, Minera Mexico, Asarco and Southern Peru Copper to be equal because of common ownership and management, centralization of certain functions and intercompany transactions.
