MetLife Private Capital invests $8.4 billion in private placements, other transactions in 2014

Charlotte, N.C., Feb. 17 – MetLife, Inc. announced that it invested, through its third-party investment management business MetLife Private Capital Investors (MPCI), $8.4 billion in corporate private placements, infrastructure debt and other private transactions during 2014, on behalf of itself and its investment management clients.

MPCI invested $1.9 billion, or 23%, of the $8.4 billion on behalf of its investment management clients. The $6.5 billion balance was invested for MetLife’s general accounts, according to a news release.

During 2014, MPCI added $2.2 billion in new commitments from other insurance companies and pension plans globally.

MPCI managed roughly $4 billion in private placement assets for its client base as of Dec. 31.

MetLife is an insurance, annuities and employee benefits provider based in New York City. The company manages a portfolio of $56 billion in private securities investments, including $42 billion in corporate debt and $9 billion in infrastructure debt transactions.
