By Caroline Salls

Pittsburgh, Jan. 11 - Northwest Airlines, Inc. will remove all of its Avro Regional Jets from Mesaba Aviation Inc.'s fleet between May and December 2006, according to an 8-K filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Northwest will also remove three additional Saab aircraft from Mesaba's fleet in April.

Northwest also advised Mesaba that its will remove the two Canadair Regional Jet Aircraft from its fleet if Mesaba is not awarded any more CRJs from Northwest's December request for proposal process.

As a result of these fleet changes, Mesaba said it is basing its restructuring plan on a fleet of 49 Saab aircraft.

Mesaba, an Eagan, Minn.-based Northwest Airlink affiliate, filed for bankruptcy on Oct. 13 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Minnesota. Its Chapter 11 case number is 05-39258.
