Merit Group: Court OK's request for name change following asset sale

Charlotte, N.C., Aug. 17 - The Merit Group and its subsidiaries had their requests for name changes approved by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of South Carolina on Wednesday, according to an attorney familiar with the case.

As previously reported, Merit sold substantially all its assets to talking horse bidder MG Distribution LLC for $46 million. Part of the sale agreement was that Merit change its name and the captioning in its court case.

The court approved these proposed name changes:

• The Merit Group Inc. becomes TMG Liquidation Co.;

• Merit Transportation Inc. becomes MTrans Liquidation Co.;

• Merit Paint Sundries LLC becomes MP Sundries Liquidation Co.;

• Merit Supply Co. LLC becomes MSupply Liquidation Co.;

• Merit Pro Finishing Tools LLC becomes MPFT Liquidation Co.;

• Five Star Products Inc. becomes FSP Liquidation Co.; and

• Five Star Group Inc. becomes FSG Liquidation Co.

Merit, a Spartanburg, S.C., paint sundry distributor, filed for bankruptcy on May 17. The Chapter 11 case number is 11-03216.
