MedImmune readies for $250 million facility expansion

By Lisa Kerner

Charlotte, N.C., Sept. 13 - MedImmune, Inc. said it broke ground to expand its biologics manufacturing facility in Frederick, Md.

The $250 million expansion will increase the pharmaceutical company's cell culture production capacity in anticipation of future monoclonal antibodies currently in development.

MedImmune recently received a $170 million, five-year contract from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to develop cell culture-based seasonal and pandemic vaccines.
