McKool Smith appoints Schwartz as principal to bankruptcy practice

By Sarah Lizee

Olympia, Wash., March 13 – McKool Smith announced that bankruptcy and restructuring lawyer H. Jeffrey Schwartz has joined the firm as a principal in its New York office, according to a press release.

Schwartz has more than 30 years of experience representing debtors, secured lenders, fiduciaries and official creditors' committees in major restructuring and reorganization matters.

"Jeffrey is a prominent figure in the New York and national bankruptcy bar," McKool Smith managing principal David Sochia said in the release.

"Our clients will benefit significantly from his many decades of experience in complex restructurings, Chapter 11 cases and other insolvency proceedings.

“He also has a wealth of experience representing hedge funds, private equity firms and other investors in distressed debt-related matters, an area where our clients have increased needs. Needless to say, we are very excited about Jeffrey's arrival to the firm."

Most recently, Schwartz served as lead counsel for the Chapter 7 trustee for ITT Education, Inc. in the prosecution of D&O claims and for the official general unsecured creditors committee of Corinthian Colleges, Inc., the largest for-profit post-secondary education provider to file for Chapter 11 reorganization, the release said.

McKool Smith is a trial firm with offices in Austin, Texas, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, Marshall, N.Y., Silicon Valley and Washington, D.C.
