MCI emerges from Chapter 11

New York, April 20 - MCI Inc. emerged from Chapter 11 Tuesday, restructuring its debt and officially changing its name from WorldCom Inc.

The Ashburn, Va., telecommunications company said it has begun to distribute securities and cash to its creditors.

The emergence follows confirmation of its plan of reorganization by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York on Oct. 31, 2003.

It filed for bankruptcy in July 2002.
