S&P assigns Anthem notes A

S&P said it assigned its A debt rating to Anthem Inc.'s fixed-rate senior unsecured notes issued in four tranches.

“The debt issuance does not affect our A long-term issuer credit rating on Anthem, which expects to use the debt proceeds for working capital and general corporate purposes. Anthem's upcoming cash needs include repayment of its $700 million 3.7% senior notes due August 2021 and pending acquisition of Puerto Rico-based health insurer MMM Holdings LLC, which is expected to close by the end of the second quarter,” S&P said in a press release.
