S&P gives Anthem notes A

S&P said it assigned its A debt rating to Anthem Inc.'s proposed fixed-rate senior unsecured notes issued in three tranches. The three proposed tranches of senior debt will mature in 2025, 2030, and 2050.

The proposed 2025 notes will be an additional issuance of Anthem's outstanding 2.375% notes due January 2025, of which $850 million was issued on Sept. 9, 2019.

The notes will be unsecured and unsubordinated obligations and will rank equally with Anthem's other unsecured and unsubordinated indebtedness.

The notes will not be guaranteed by any of its insurance operating subsidiaries and will be effectively subordinated to all liabilities of the subsidiaries, the agency said.

“This debt issuance does not affect our A long-term issuer credit rating on Anthem. ” S&P said in a press release.
