Marsh Supermarkets liquidation sales begin; auction results announced

By Caroline Salls

Pittsburgh, June 15 – Marsh Supermarkets, LLC announced Thursday that liquidation sales have begun at 29 of its stores in Indiana and Ohio.

According to a company news release, the sales will continue until the inventory is sold, most likely in early July.

In addition, Marsh said the Kroger Co. wholly owned subsidiary Topvalco, Inc. and Generative Growth II, LLC, which does business as Fresh Encounter, successfully bid for 11 and 15 Marsh locations, respectively.

Topvalco bid $15.6 million for the 11 locations it purchased. The amount of the Generative Growth bid has not been disclosed in court filings.

Marsh said liquidation sales began Thursday at the 11 locations being purchased by Topvalco and at the 18 other Marsh stores that did not attract a buyer in the auction.

Topvalco intends to take possession of its stores when the liquidation sales are complete. The stores without a buyer will be closed.

The Topvalco sale was approved by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware on Thursday.

Marsh, an Indianapolis-based grocery chain, filed bankruptcy on May 11. The Chapter 11 case number is 17-11066.
