DOJ asks InBev for more information in proposed merger with Anheuser-Busch

By Lisa Kerner

Charlotte, N.C., Aug. 18 - InBev NV said it received a request for additional information from the U.S. Department of Justice under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Antitrust Improvements Act of 1976 in regards to the company's proposed merger with Anheuser-Busch Cos., Inc.

The second request is a normal and expected part of the regulatory process, InBev said in a statement released on Monday.

InBev, a Belgium-based brewing company, stated it intends to respond "expeditiously" to the second request and expects the transaction to close by the end of the year.

The transaction remains subject to approval by InBev and Anheuser-Busch shareholders, regulatory review in some other jurisdictions and customary closing conditions.

In July St. Louis-based Anheuser-Busch and InBev agreed to combine to form Anheuser-Busch InBev, the world's leading brewer, in a deal valued at $52 billion.

Anheuser-Busch shareholders will receive $70 per share in cash in the transaction, it was previously reported.
