Anglo American continues to sell shares of AngloGold

By Lisa Kerner

Charlotte, N.C., Feb. 18 - Anglo American plc reduced its ownership in AngloGold Ashanti Ltd. to 11.88% through the sale of 1,474,283 of the company's ordinary shares between Feb. 9 and Feb. 18.

The sales, reported in a schedule 13D/A filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission, were in connection with Anglo American's previously announced decision to reduce or dispose of its holdings in the company. The investor said it will no longer seek to retain AngloGold as a subsidiary.

Anglo American sold 5,933,023 shares of the Johannesburg gold producer's stock between Jan. 28 and Feb. 5 and sold 4,393,276 shares between Jan. 20 and Jan. 27, according to prior SEC filings.
