AbitibiBowater files automatic shelf registration

Des Moines, March 5 - AbitibiBowater Inc. filed an automatic shelf registration with the Securities and Exchange Commission, according to an S-3ASR filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The registration covers debt securities, preferred stock, common stock and warrants. The securities may be structured as convertibles.

Proceeds will be used for repayment of debt and general corporate purposes.

AbitibiBowater is a Montreal-based producer of newsprint and commercial printing papers.
