By Angela McDaniels
Seattle, Nov. 11 - Lexicon Genetics Inc. and Taconic Farms, Inc. said they have formed a collaboration agreement for the marketing, distribution and licensing of knockout mice made by Lexicon.
Under the terms of the collaboration, Lexicon will initially make available more than 1,000 distinct lines of mice, each with a single gene knocked out, for use by pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies and other researchers.
Taconic will provide breeding services and licenses for these lines and will distribute knockout mice to customers.
Lexicon will also consider requests for the creation of new lines, the company said.
Taconic Farms is based in Hudson, N.Y., where it produces laboratory rodents.
The Woodlands, Texas-based Lexicon Genetics is a biopharmaceutical company that researches the functions of genes to identify potential points of therapeutic intervention.
