Levitt and Sons exclusive plan-vote period extended to March 20

By Jennifer Lanning Drey

Portland, Ore., Feb. 12 - Levitt and Sons LLC obtained an extension to its exclusive period to solicit votes on its plan of liquidation, according to a Thursday filing with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Florida.

The exclusive solicitation period was extended to March 20 from Jan. 31.

When requesting the extension, Levitt and Sons said it was necessary due to the size and complexity of its legal and business issues.

The company also noted that it has made good faith progress toward an orderly wind-down of its operations.

The company filed its plan of liquidation on Dec. 18 with the support of its official committee of unsecured creditors.

The plan of liquidation confirmation hearing is scheduled for Feb. 20.

Levitt and Sons, a Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based homebuilding subsidiary of Levitt Corp., filed for bankruptcy on Nov. 9, 2007. Its Chapter 11 case number is 07-19845.
