Lenox reports $3.89 million operating loss for month ended Jan. 31

Pittsburgh, Feb. 27 - Lenox Group Inc. reported a $3.89 million operating loss for the four weeks ended Jan. 31 on $15.27 million in net sales, according to its monthly operating report filed Friday with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The figures showed a decline from the $446,000 operating profit posted for the six weeks ended Jan. 3 on $37.13 million in net sales.

The net loss for the latest period was $5.74 million, narrowing from the $7.45 million net loss for the previous period.

The company had $327,000 in cash and cash equivalents as of Jan. 31, compared with $4.27 million at Jan. 3.

Eden Prairie, Minn.-based Lenox is a maker of tableware, collectibles and giftware. It filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Nov. 23 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York, and its Chapter 11 case number is 08-14679.
