Banc of America top leveraged loan arranger for year to date

• Leveraged loan issuance totals $201.62 billion year to date

New York, Aug. 29 - Banc of America remained seated on top of the league table of leveraged loan arrangers for the year so far, according to data compiled by Prospect News.

Meanwhile issuance plunged to $13.38 billion in August from $27.21 billion in July as the summer slowdown and market worries took hold.

Banc of America has now been the number one arranger year to date for four consecutive months. It had been leading for the year through March, but JPMorgan pushed ahead in April for a single month before BofA retook the title.

Banc of America was also first for the month of August.

August's total of $13.38 billion in new deals was less than half July's and the second smallest since May 2003, when there was just $11.86 billion of deals. Only March of this year, with $9.57 billion, saw less activity.

It was also well below the $18.12 billion in August 2007, even though the credit crunch had taken hold by that point.

Year-to-date issuance now totals $201.62 billion, just 40% of the $499.31 billion comparable figure for 2007.

The Prospect News figures cover dollar-denominated deals in the United States. Credit for deals is divided among the lead arrangers.
