Banc of America top leveraged loan arranger in January

• Leveraged loan issuance totals $56.05 billion in January

New York, Jan. 31 - Banc of America was the top arranger of leveraged loans in January as the market continued with last year's strong pace of issuance, according to data compiled by Prospect News.

Banc of America handled $9.8 billion of deals in the first month, pushing ahead of number-two placed JPMorgan, the number one arranger for all of 2006.

Contributing to BofA's position was the $3.25 billion deal for Health Management Associates Inc. on which the bank was sole lead.

Issuance volume for the month was $56.05 billion, only a little below the $56.75 billion total for January 2006 and ahead of the $51.04 billion monthly average for all of last year.

The Prospect News figures cover dollar-denominated deals in the United States. Credit for deals is divided among the lead arrangers.
