S&P: Anadarko view to stable

Standard & Poor's said it revised its outlook on Anadarko Petroleum Corp. to stable from positive, and affirmed its BBB- corporate credit and senior unsecured debt ratings.

The revised outlook reflects a view that uncertainties surrounding the Gulf of Mexico oil spill that followed the Deepwater Horizon explosion last month reduce the likelihood of an upgrade over the next two years, S&P said.

It is not clear at this point what the total costs and liabilities will be, and the agency said it expects it could take several years for this to be determined.

However, S&P said it believes that Anadarko's solid operating performance and liquidity should allow it to fund a substantial amount of potential costs and liabilities and maintain its current ratings.

The ratings reflect a strong business risk profile and an aggressive financial risk profile, the agency added.
