Texas settles claims in American Airlines/US Airways merger lawsuit

By Caroline Salls

Pittsburgh, Oct. 1 - One of the defendants in the antitrust lawsuit related to the merger of AMR Corp. subsidiary American Airlines, Inc. and US Airways Group, Inc. has entered into a settlement with the airlines, according to a Tuesday filing with the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.

Specifically, the State of Texas entered into an agreement that resolves its claims but does not address the claims of the other plaintiff states or the Department of Justice.

Texas said it is conferring with all litigation parties to notify them of the settlement.

Once it is assured that no party opposes its position, the state said it will file a motion to voluntarily dismiss its claims with prejudice.

AMR, the Fort Worth-based parent of American Airlines, filed for bankruptcy on Nov. 29, 2011 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York. Its Chapter 11 case number is 11-15463.
