Fitch rates Ameriprise Financial notes A-

Fitch Ratings said it assigned an A- rating to Ameriprise Financial, Inc.'s issuance of $750 million of 5.3% senior notes due March 8, 2020. Its long-term issuer default rating of A, senior notes of A- and junior subordinated notes of BBB are unaffected.

The outlook is negative.

The ratings reflect a view that projected investment losses over the next 12 to 18 months are manageable in the context of the company's capital base and earnings, Fitch said.

Fitch said it believes that the company's conservative financial management has positioned it well relative to many peers.

The negative outlook considers a concern about further deterioration in the financial markets, Fitch said.
