Interstate Bakeries granted extension to exclusive plan filing, solicitation periods

By Caroline Salls

Pittsburgh, Nov. 17 - Interstate Bakeries Corp. obtained an extension to its exclusive periods to file a plan of reorganization and solicit votes on the plan, according to a Wednesday filing with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Missouri.

The company's exclusive plan filing period was extended to May 18, 2006 from Nov. 18 and its solicitation period to July 17, 2006 from Jan. 17.

According to the motion, the company needs extra time to continue consolidating its profit centers for cost reduction and negotiating extensions to its collective bargaining agreements.

The Kansas City, Mo., bakery operator filed for bankruptcy Sept. 22, 2004. Its Chapter 11 case number is 04-45814.
