Interstate Bakeries' operating loss falls to $17.86 million in quarter ended Aug. 23

Pittsburgh, Oct. 7 - Interstate Bakeries Corp. posted a $17.86 million operating loss for the quarter ended Aug. 23 on $658.71 million in revenues, according to a 10-Q filed Tuesday with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

In comparison, the company reported a $264,000 operating loss for the quarter ended Aug. 25, 2007 on $689.82 million in revenues.

The net loss for the 12 weeks ended Aug. 23 was $36.87 million, widening from a $15.99 million net loss recorded for the 12 weeks ended Aug. 25, 2007.

The company had $22.66 million in cash at Aug. 23, down from $68.72 million at Aug. 25, 2007.

Interstate, a Kansas City, Mo., bakery operator, filed for bankruptcy on Sept. 22, 2004 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Missouri. Its Chapter 11 case number is 04-45814.
