By Caroline Salls

Pittsburgh, Sept. 13 - Interstate Bakeries Corp. is making progress in its negotiations with the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union in finding solutions for path-to-market and cost structure issues, according to a company news release.

"Our company values its relationship with the BCTGM and its members and is committed to reaching an agreement that will enable us to survive and preserve the jobs of our employees," Interstate acting executive vice president of human resources Dave Loeser said in the release.

The company said it plans to resume the negotiations following observance of the religious holidays.

The Kansas City, Mo., bakery operator filed for bankruptcy on Sept. 22, 2004 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Missouri. Its Chapter 11 case number is 04-45814.
