Interstate Bakeries appoints Mistretta to fill board vacancy

By Caroline Salls

Pittsburgh, Aug. 30 - Interstate Bakeries Corp. appointed William P. Mistretta as a director of the company to fill the vacancy left by the resignation of James Elsesser in September 2004, according to a company news release.

Interstate said Mistretta has more than 20 years of experience in the food manufacturing and service industry.

"Bill has extensive knowledge of the food manufacturing business and a strong background in operations," board chairman Leo Benatar said in the release. "IBC will benefit from his insights and experience."

Mistretta was among four candidates submitted in separate lists by both the official committee of equity security holders and by Interstate stockholder Brencourt Advisors, LLC.

With Mistretta's appointment, Winn-Dixie said there are no vacancies remaining on the board.

In addition to serving on Interstate's board, Mistretta currently serves as vice president of operations for a division of Compass Group plc's U.S. operations.

Mistretta earned his bachelors degree in business administration from the University of Scranton and a Master of Business Administration from Farleigh Dickinson University.

Interstate, a Kansas City, Mo., bakery operator, filed for bankruptcy on Sept. 22, 2004 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Missouri. Its Chapter 11 case number is 04-45814.
