IBM adds Cognos to its list of strategic acquisitions

Charlotte, N.C., Jan. 31 - International Business Machines Corp. complete its acquisition of Cognos Inc. and said it will reveal its resulting business strategy for the company on Feb. 6.

The transaction will contribute to IBM's goal of earnings-per-share growth through 2010, a company news release stated.

It was previously reported that IBM agreed to acquire Cognos in an all-cash transaction valued at $4.9 billion as part of its Information on Demand strategy.

IBM has announced a total of 25 strategic acquisitions in support of its global Information on Demand effort.

Cognos is a business intelligence and performance management software solutions company located in Ottawa.

IBM, based in Armonk, N.Y., develops computer systems, software, storage systems and microelectronics.
