Protiva files suit, seeks damages from Inex

By Lisa Kerner

Charlotte, N.C., Sept. 8 - Protiva Biotherapeutics, Inc. filed suit against Inex Pharmaceuticals Corp. in the Superior Court of the State of California alleging that Inex interfered with Protiva's business relationship with Sirna Therapeutics, Inc.

The suit also alleges defamation of Protiva's president and chief executive officer, Mark Murray, by Inex's chief executive officer, Timothy Ruane.

Protiva is seeking general, specific and punitive damages in a jury trial.

In other action, Protiva filed a motion in the Supreme Court of British Columbia to prevent the assignment of agreements and intellectual property from Inex to Tekmira Pharmaceuticals Corp. without Protiva's consent.

Protiva is a Vancouver-based pharmaceutical products company.
