Bear Stearns High Yield Index returns 1.79% for 2005

New York, Jan. 3 - The Bear Stearns High Yield Index finished 2005 with a return of 1.79%.

Telecommunications was the winning sector with an 8.26% gain while transportation was the loser with a loss of 14.15% for the 12 months.

Among the narrow sub-sectors making up those broad 11 groups, telecommunications' cellular component was the top performer and the only one to break into double digits with a 15.64% total return for the year.

Meanwhile, airlines was the biggest loser with a 41.98% loss for the year as a whole, despite jumping 27.53% in the final quarter.
