Imperial Capital keeps growing bond sales, trading with five new hires

By Susanna Moon

Chicago, March 30 - Imperial Capital Group, LLC said it added five fixed-income sale and trading employees to Imperial Capital, LLC, its U.S.-based investment banking platform, and Imperial Capital (International) LLP, its recently formed U.K. affiliate.

The U.S.-based group added Keith Dionis, David Gomez and David Patterson this year to its high grade/hybrid sales and trading group.

Dionis joined Imperial as a senior vice president and sales trader based in New York. He brings more than 20 years of fixed-income experience, with the bulk of his career spent as a bond trader with AIG. Most recently, Dionis was a managing director with Suntrust Robinson, Humphrey, Inc.

Gomez is a managing director in New York. Before joining the firm, Gomez worked for Chapdelaine Credit Partners, BNP Paribas and UBS. He began his career at RBS and has a Bachelor of Science from the State University of New York, Binghamton.

Patterson is a managing director in Boston. He began his career at Merrill Lynch, where he worked for 12 years in investment-grade sales. Most recently, Patterson was a director with Credit Suisse. He has a Bachelor of Science from Syracuse University.

The U.K. group added two sales and trading hires focused on the credit spectrum for its European franchise: Dennis McKenna and Jose Fontes.

McKenna is a senior vice president and was a vice president and trader of GSO Capital Partners for seven years, where most recently he was trading high yield and special situations for GSO Capital Partners International in the United Kingdom after working for their U.S.-based group in New York. McKenna began his career in the securities business with J.P. Morgan Securities LLC in New York where he was an analyst in trading credit risk management and later with Goldman Sachs New York as a senior associate in the equities division/global securities services. Mr. McKenna has a Bachelor of Arts from Manhattanville College.

Fontes joined the group as a vice president and was most recently a fixed-income and derivatives sales professional with UBS Securities. Before that, he was with Credit Suisse as an analyst in the private client services group. He has a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Nottingham.

The first-quarter growth of the company's fixed-income sales and trading business is designed to drive the franchise's ambitious growth initiatives in the United States and abroad, according to a press release by the Los Angeles-based investment bank.

"We have focused Imperial's fixed income sales and trading growth on hiring seasoned professionals to join our existing core business," Jason Reese, CEO of Imperial Capital Group, said in the release.

"In so doing, we have produced a 35% aggregate increase in our global fixed income sales and trading force expanding from 43 professionals at 2010 year end to 67 after the first quarter of 2012. Our employee base now has 210 in the US and 7 in the UK."
