Horsehead to temporarily idle North Carolina zinc production facility

By Caroline Salls

Pittsburgh, Jan. 22 – Horsehead Holding Corp. is temporarily idling its Mooresboro, N.C., zinc production facility, according to a company news release.

Horsehead said its decision to temporarily idle the facility is the result of many factors, including a depressed zinc price, which recently has languished near its seven-year low, and the company’s current liquidity situation.

A small workforce will be retained to manage the facility during this period, the release said.

Pittsburgh-based Horsehead Holding is the parent company of Horsehead Corp., a U.S. producer of specialty zinc and zinc-based products and a recycler of electric arc furnace dust.
