Hawaiian Telcom names Jalkut chairman, nominates Cellar to new board

By Caroline Salls

Pittsburgh, June 9 - Hawaiian Telcom Holdco, Inc. said Kurt M. Cellar has been nominated to serve on the company's board of directors when it emerges from Chapter 11 bankruptcy, and Richard A. Jalkut has been selected to serve as the reorganized company's chairman of the board.

According to a company news release, Cellar would be the seventh member of Hawaiian Telcom's board. The other members include Jalkut, Warren H. Haruki, Steven C. Oldham, Bob Phillips III, Paul H. Sunu and Eric K. Yeaman.

The company said Cellar has extensive experience in telecommunications as both an investor and board member. He currently serves on the board of RCN Corp.

Jalkut is the president and chief executive officer of U.S. TelePacific Corp.

"We look forward to [the new board's] strategic guidance as we further establish Hawaiian Telcom as the state's leading communications provider," Hawaiian Telcom president and CEO Eric K. Yeaman said in the release.

Hawaiian Telcom, Inc., a Honolulu-based telecommunications provider, filed for bankruptcy on Dec. 1, 2008 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware. The case was later transferred to the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Hawaii. The company's Chapter 11 case number is 08-02005.
