Harbor Small Company Value Fund to close Dec. 29

By Toni Weeks

San Diego, Oct. 31 - The board of trustees of Harbor Small Company Value Fund said the fund will be liquidated and dissolved on Dec. 29, according to a 497K filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The move is in the shareholders' best interests, the board added.

Liquidation proceeds will be distributed to any remaining shareholders of the fund on the liquidation date.

Shareholders may exchange shares into another Harbor fund or redeem shares out of the fund until the liquidation date.

The filing said that most of the fund's assets will be invested in cash, cash equivalents and debt securities with a remaining maturity of less than a year in order to ready the fund for liquidation. As a result, the fund will no longer meet its investment goal of seeking long-term total return.

The fund is now closed to new investors.

The fund is subadvised by Earnest Partners LLC.
