Hancock Fabrics plans going-out-of-business sale at Columbus store

By Caroline Salls

Pittsburgh, Jan. 8 - Hancock Fabrics, Inc. requested court approval to hold a going-out-of-business store closing sale at its Columbus, Ga., retail store and to cease operations at that store, according to a Monday filing with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware.

According to the motion, the landlord of the Columbus store is attempting to terminate Hancock's lease, so the company must hold a going-out-of-business sale to realize the value of the assets to be liquidated.

A hearing is scheduled for Jan. 10.

Hancock Fabrics, a Baldwyn, Miss., specialty retailer of fabric and related home sewing and decorating accessories, filed for bankruptcy on March 21, 2007. Its Chapter 11 case number is 07-10353.
