Haemonetics' Harmony pump gains FDA marketing clearance

By Angela McDaniels

Seattle, Oct. 27 - Haemonetics Corp. said its SmartSuction Harmony surgical suction pump has received 510(k) marketing clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

The SmartSuction Harmony system combines self-regulating, high suction rates with low vacuum pressures to remove fluid from the surgical field, Haemonetics said. Unlike manually regulated wall suction systems, the Harmony pump is free standing.

The company said the pump is one of a family of products being developed based on SmartSuction technology acquired from Harvest Technologies Corp. in August 2004.

Braintree, Mass.-based Haemonetics is a biotechnology company that designs and manufactures automated blood processing systems.
