Malaysia’s Maybank redeems portion of 2008 tier 1 capital securities

Madison, Wis., Sept. 10 – Malaysia’s Malayan Banking Bhd. announced it redeemed RM 3,437,000,000 of its existing non-innovative tier 1 capital on Wednesday.

The securities are comprised of non-cumulative perpetual capital securities issued by Maybank stapled to subordinated notes issued by Maybank’s wholly owned subsidiary, Cekap Mentari Bhd.

The partially redeemed securities were issued in June 2008.

The commercial and retail bank is based in Kuala Lumpur.
