Correction: Jesup & Lamont analyst sees value for Southwest in Frontier bid

The Aug. 3 edition of the Prospect News Special Situations Daily incorrectly reported the firm of analyst Helane R. Becker. A corrected excerpt follows:

Portland, Ore., Aug. 3 - Southwest Airlines Co.'s bid for Frontier Airlines Holdings, Inc. could help the carrier gain market share from its rivals, an analyst said.

"The company has a position in Denver that is not dominant at all," said Helane R. Becker, an analyst with Jesup & Lamont. Purchasing Frontier would allow Southwest to compete with Denver's biggest carrier, United Air Lines Inc.

"Frontier has some pretty good assets that would complement Southwest," Becker continued. For example, Frontier has a route running to Washington National Airport, which Southwest currently does not offer.

"There's a lot that Frontier brings to the party," she said.
